Update for Paul and Christa Hegland’s Pictures

[There are now 3 photo albums.]

Profile photoFrom Paul:

First, it was so much fun to be with all the relatives in Norway: getting to know everyone, enjoying the Norwegian hospitality and scenery, reveling in just about every serendipity there was.  Second, I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures others took, and the stories they share.

Here are the links to pictures I’ve posted so far. I put them on my Facebook page, but I’m pretty sure anyone — FB user or not — can see them with these links.

This is the photo I showed you, of Anna Thorsheim at about age 90, and yours truly at age 4-1/2.

Here’s the story, the picture was taken in December 1964, in the farmhouse of Serena and Jesse Hegland (my grandparents), just outside Radcliffe, Iowa. The brand new, shiny, black, rotary-dial phone had just been installed, and the old, large, wood, hand-crank, party-line phone was still active. So there we were, my great grandmother and I, talking to each other — the 90-year-old on the old phone, the 4-year-old on the new.

This Anna, by the way, was the Anna of Anna and Rasmus; she was the daughter of Anna and Ivar, who were the generation following Rasmus and Helena, whom we celebrated in Norway. This Anna was the one who died in 1967.

Thorsheim Reunion 2012  Bremnes

From Gerhard Knutson

O Lord, our Maker, Redeemer and Comforter, we are assembled in Thy presence to hear Thy holy word. We pray thee so to open our hearts by Thy Holy Spirit, that through the preaching of Thy word we may be taught to repent of our sins, to believe on Jesus in life and in death, and to grow day by day in grace and holiness. Hear us for Christ’s sake. Amen Continue reading

“Thorsheim-relatives Reunion”
Over 100 children and adult descendents of Anna and Ivar Thorsheim, from Norway and outside of Norway, were gathered at Hiskholmen Saturday.

The oldest, Knut Gundersen, will soon be 90 years old and lives at Svortland, but the youngest was under one year old. Over 50 of those attending came from America. Continue reading

Googling Norway

What questions did you have that you googled or asked about?  Perhaps you had questions about Norway or history or family members.  For instance, Arne was driving us back to Bergen and as we were going through yet another tunnel we wondered if Norway has the most tunnels in the world.  Find out the answer by clicking on the speech icon.  Then tell us the interesting information you learned in the Leave a Reply section.  No need to cite your sources.  🙂

Welcome to the Family Blogsite

Hallo/Hello on Wednesday, July 4. Happy 4th of July to the American Thorsheims.image

Holy Olaf! A phrase Anna likes to say she says on her blog, annagoeseverywhere.blogspot.com. Well, Holy Olaf, Anna has not only kept up with a timely recording of our activities while she’s traveling, which is no easy task, she has done an extremely good job of capturing the detail. Takk Anna! Go read it. image

We can’t say it enough, takk for alt Marta, Asta, Aina, Inta Tove and all who helped. We made wonderful memories. Note to the American Thorsheims: Yes, if the phrase is familiar, you saw it on many of the gravestones. Thanks for everything.
More later.

We’re here!

This is so exciting.  We’re enjoying being together and making memories.  But we miss you and want to share our fun with you.  This post is only a preview of what’s to come.  Many people will add their pictures and words, even videos, but right now they’re busy making the memories.
I’m sitting here in “command central” with Inta Tove, Aina and Rutt.

Family members drop by. Earlier when Inta Tove and Rutt were working on the family tree, Joan and Lowell stopped for a while.image

Here’s Karsten (notice the reunion t-shirt.) He has been chauffeuring people to various activities this afternoon: some are shopping at Bomlo’s shops (open from 10 to 2 today), some to visit with Knut and Marit, and some are hiking Siggjo, the mountain. image Napping may however be the most popular.

The weather is rainy and cool but quite pleasant. Message to sister Jeanine: your jacket is just perfect. Takk!

We have a reporter from the Strilen newspaper following us and I hear we will be a story in the Bomlo Nytt too. There’s nothing showing right now but you can check these links later: Bomlo Nytt and Stilen. We’ll ask a Norwegian Thorsheim to translate the articles later.

And here are more people dropping by: Karen bought flowers for the committee people. How nice! image

Christa and Anna have been shopping and are showing us their pretty new scarves. image .

Anna is blogging too. Follow hers, Anna Goes Everywhere, at annagoeseverywhere.blogspot.com.

We have already done and seen so much and there’s more to come. We have Inta Tove, Aina, Asta, and Marta, with help from a lot of people I think, to thank for this wonderful reunion. Mange takk!
