“Thorsheim-relatives Reunion”
Over 100 children and adult descendents of Anna and Ivar Thorsheim, from Norway and outside of Norway, were gathered at Hiskholmen Saturday.

The oldest, Knut Gundersen, will soon be 90 years old and lives at Svortland, but the youngest was under one year old. Over 50 of those attending came from America.

Anna and Ivar Thorsheim came from Seim in Nordhordland. They came to Gilje in the 1860s and they had 10 children. In 1867, Ivar Thorsheim became the first teacher at Gilje school that at that time was located in the prayer house (better translation of “Bedehus”??–the important community building where religious gatherings were held, and Bedehuser can be found in many communities today, especially on the West Coast. They exist in addition to the state churches of Norway, like the Bremnes church, as I understand it). Ivar Thorsheim also became mayor of the former Bremnes municipality.

Ivar Thorsheim was born in 1846 and died in 1912. This year it is 100 years since he died, and so it is particularly fitting to gather at this reunion this year, said Helga Maeland Landro, great-grandchild.

  1. Thanks, Marta and Linda! I will take a stab at translating:
